Although it’s more than eight months away, participants are already being solicited for the ninth annual 5-kilometer Fun Run and Walk that is a primary fund-raiser for the Pottsgrove School District Educational Foundation.
The event will begin May 9, 2009, at 9 a.m. from the Pottsgrove High School stadium on Kauffman Road, preceded by registration between 8 and 8:45 a.m. Proceeds from the Fun Run benefit the foundation and its Classroom Grants Program, which helps pay for classroom projects that otherwise could not be funded under the district’s regular budget.
- This event has been added to The Post’s May 2009 calendar.
The 5-K (3.1-mile) race is wheel-measured to ensure accuracy, according to Pottsgrove Athletic Director Gary Derenzo. It starts with 1-1/2 laps on the stadium’s all-weather track, and then will move onto neighboring streets with traffic controls for safety. Cash prizes will be awarded to overall male and female winners; medals will be presented to top finishers in each age category.
Adult registration for the run costs $15, and must be postmarked by April 24, 2009. Applications can be submitted online. Participants will receive a race T-shirt. Adult registration also will be accepted on the morning of the race, at a cost of $20, but T-shirt availability may be limited. For more information, call at Derenzo at 610-326-6376.
Registration for the children’s walk also is accepted online, and costs $5. The 1-to-2-lap walk, wholly within the stadium, is appropriate for children age 12 and under, and parents are welcome to accompany their kids. A gift will be presented to each child participating.
The foundation was created in 2000, and additionally administers a yearly scholarship given to a graduating Pottsgrove High School senior. For more information about the foundation, to become a member, or to make a donation, call 610-327-2277 or send an e-mail.
