Old Glory, Old No Longer

Red, white and new.

Red, white and new.

Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township officials knew that both their American and Pennsylvania flags, flying from a pole outside the administration building on Buchert Road, needed to be replaced. Their edges were tattered and frayed. New flags were ordered weeks ago; a U.S. flag from Congress, and a state flag from the office of local Rep. Tom Quigley.

Coincidentally, The (Pottstown PA) Mercury newspaper, in its Sound-Off column yesterday (Oct. 9, 2008), published a comment by a caller who declared the township’s old flag “deplorable.” No argument there; all involved agree it was.

For the record, the replacement flag (seen at left) arrived before the comment appeared in print. It was flown yesterday for the first time. The new state flag also will be hoisted upon delivery.
