Visiting an opponent’s turf is never easy. The boys playing for the Pennridge Greenjackets 70-2 youth football team from Sellersville PA knew that as they walked, ran and jumped Sunday (Oct. 19, 2008) onto the chalk-lined acreage behind Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School. The 3 p.m. game in Sanatoga PA against the Pottstown PAL (Police Athletic League) Patriots was their next-to-last outing of the season.
If they were nervous, it didn’t show. As the Patriots collected at the other end of the field, any Greenjackets’ anxiety was buried beneath routine. There were limbs to stretch and pre-game drills to rehearse. A quick jog behind Pennridge Coach Joe Mossbrook qualified as a warm-up.
The referees called the coin-toss at midfield, and team captains shook hands all ’round. The visitors huddled among themselves, remembering their training, thinking through their plays …
… and flashing that final confidence-builder.
