Friday, Oct. 31

Pottstown’s cancer-fighting Relay For Life organization intends to thank the community for its support with an observance at 6:45 p.m. before the start of the Pottsgrove-Pottstown football game at Pottsgrove High School stadium, 1345 Kauffman Rd., Pottstown PA. The Homecoming Night game starts at 7 p.m. Go Falcons!

A Halloween parade for children age 12 and under, and accompanied by an adult, will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a free candy give-away from 7-9 p.m., at Zern’s Farmers’ Market, 1100 E. Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville PA. Parade participants must be registered by 4 p.m. in Zern’s main office, or by calling 610-367-2461.

Saturday, Nov. 1

Both Pottstown PA “Ys” will be active today. The Tri-County Area YWCA will conduct a bake sale inside its facility at 315 King St., Pottstown PA, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Pottstown branch of Freedom Valley YMCA hosts selected vendors selling goods created for holiday giving from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside its building at 724 N. Adams St., Pottstown PA.

Volunteers interested in serving as tutors for adult students who need help in mastering basic English and mathematics can attend training for the task from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the YWCA Tri-County Area Adult Literacy Center, 1830 E. High St., Sanatoga PA. No previous teaching experience is required. A $12 fee for materials and lunch will be charged. To register, call the center at 610-326- READ (7323).

The Boyertown PA Farmers’ Market closes out its second season from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, 12 N. Reading Ave. Fresh fruits, vegetaables, prepared foods and other items are available for sale.

A wine-tasting and lecture by a member of the American Wine Society is being presented as a fundraiser for the Pottstown Public Library from 6-9 p.m. at the library, 500 High St., Pottstown. Tickets are $40. The wines will be paired with food served by Bause-Landry Catering of Pottstown.

Philadelphia radio personality Harvey Holiday of WOGL-FM (Oldies 98.1) will be the guest DJ during an old-fashioned record hop from 7 p.m. to midnight at Sunnybrook Ballroom, Sunnybrook Road at East High Street, Sanatoga PA. “Proudly Pottstown” is the label given to the first concert of the season by the Pottstown Symphony Orchestra, which opens at 8 p.m. at The Hill School Center for the Arts, Beech Street, Pottstown PA. The concert is funded, in part, by donations from Pottstown residents, and features pieces by Mozart and Mendelssohn, and the talents of orchestra concertmaster Christopher Collins Lee and guest conductor Peter Brye. Tickets range from $10 to $30. Brye will offer a pre-concert lecture at 7:15 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 2

A second annual harvest festival will be held at the Elks Lodge, 61 High St., Pottstown, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors selling crafts, Jewelry, scarves, pottery, candles and other items will be featured.

Author, historian and speaker Marc Aronson, a nationally known spokesperson for young-adult literature, will present a conversational program at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Farm, 2488 Sanatoga Rd., Pottstown PA. A reception and book signing will follow.
