LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – The township police department has been awarded an $8,000 grant by the Phoenixville (PA) Community Health Foundation to purchase automated external defibrillator devices (AEDs) used to diagnose and potentially stabilize heart attack victims.

AEDs are portable, battery operated devices that can be used by non-medical personnel to treat life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias which have led to cardiac arrest.

The grant was awarded in September but only recently announced. The foundation, which is a charitable organization formed in 1997 and expanded with proceeds of the 2004 sale of Phoenixville (PA) Hospital to Community Health Systems in Tennessee, includes the township in its service area.
