A Difference In Openness

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – The township’s proposed 2009 budget was available Monday (Nov. 24, 2008) in its entirety for public review at the Lower Pottsgrove administration building, 2199 Buchert Rd., Sanatoga PA. Those interested can even purchase a personal copy to take with them at a cost of $3.75, but completion of a public records request is required.

Compare that transparency with Limerick Township, Lower Pottsgrove’s eastern neighbor, where that township’s tentative budget also is available for public review … but NOT for purchase. Limerick Finance Director Beth DiPrete today (Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008) said that because the budget had not yet been officially adopted copies would not be publicly distributed for free or at cost, even though the public could browse the budget document to their heart’s content during Limerick’s normal business hours.

A vote by the Board of Commissioners on adoption of Lower Pottsgrove’s budget is scheduled for Dec. 18.
