ROYERSFORD PA – Pick a card, any card, and watch your fortunes rise.
That was the pitch offered Wednesday (Jan. 14, 2009) by the featured speaker during this month’s Women of The Workforce (WOW) luncheon, presented by the TriCounty Area Chamber of Comerce at Spring-Ford Country Club. Carol-Anne Minski, manager of organizational solutions for the MidAtlantic Employers’ Association, used a deck of numbered cards to help WOW members learn how to make the most of networking opportunities.
Each member drew a card from the deck, and then was asked to network with others holding the same numbered card. Their prime task in the role-play, Minski explained, was to deliver an “elevator speech,” a 15-second description of what they do and where. Her point: effective networking helps people put their best foot forward and ensures they are remembered. It’s a key to career and professional development, whether meeting someone for the first time, looking to expand current business, or seeking new employment.
The event was sponsored by 1031 Corp. The chamber holds Women of the Workforce luncheons monthly. February’s event will feature “Brand New Year, Brand New You,” a talk by recognized brand experts from The Anderson Group. It is scheduled for Feb. 10 (2009; Tuesday) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Cutillo’s Restaurant in Sanatoga.
