Spark Caused Valtech Accident

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – An investigation into last month’s explosion and fire at Valtech Corp., 2113 Sanatoga Station Rd., indicates the accident was caused by a spark that ignited inside a dust collector at the adhesives manufacturing plant, township Fire Marshal Lew Babel reported.

The Jan. 21 (2009) incident at the plant included substantial damage to an exterior wall and interior equipment, reportedly valued at about $50,000. The explosion ripped a hole in the building’s metal sheathing, near an area housing equipment that collects dust particles. A loose fan blade is considered a likely cause of the spark, according to Babel. No one was injured.

Valtech manufactures epoxy adhesives, detergent cleaners and coolants used in electronics and by the semiconductor industry. Ite remained in operation following the accident.
