Pottstown's Neapco Lays Off In Midwest

POTTSTOWN PA – Thirty-three jobs at the Beatrice NE manufacturing and distribution center of Neapco LLC, the vehicle drive train manufacturer headquartered at 740 Queen St., were eliminated last week, The Associated Press reported Monday.

Beatrice plant manager Duane Culver blamed the “soft business environment,” according to the report that appeared on the website of Nebraska television stations KOLN and KGIN. It added that Culver said Neapco is working with local agencies to help the laid-off workers find new jobs.

The layoff affected 19 percent of the 170-member work force at Neapco’s Beatrice plant, which The AP said had been operating for 28 years. Neapco also has distribution centers in Riverside CA and Missisauga, Ontario, Canada, and assembly operations in Reynosa, Mexico, according to the company’s website.
