Fire Volunteers Train For Hazards

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Volunteers from the Sanatoga and Ringing Hill fire companies are participating in 40 hours of hazardous materials training this month, according to township Fire Marshal Lew Babel. Five 8-hour sessions, designed to show fire personnel how to stay safe and keep others safe when operating in environments involving toxic or hazardous substances, began Monday (March 2, 2009) and continue through this week.

Babel’s report on the fire companies’ activities was received Monday by the township Board of Commisioners at the municipal building, 2199 Buchert Rd., during its first of two monthly meetings for March. Here’s a tabular summary of his report:

THis month’s hazardous materials training for both companies follows two days of training during February, in which firefighters learned how to deal with an airplane crash, and three additional hours of training in dealing with a railroad accident.

Babel noted the Sanatoga company will observe its 100th anniversary next Monday (March 9, 2009); the company will celebrate during an anniversary dinner planned for April 4 (2009; Saturday) at Belle Vista Golf Course, 2901 Fagleysville Rd., Gilbertsville PA.

Twenty-three members of Ringing Hill helped with fundraising eforts during February, Babel added, involving 255 man-hours. The company’s annual Easter candy sales will be held this month.
