Wachovia Keeping Its Logo … For Awhile

Wachovia's branch office on East High Street, Pottstown.

Wachovia's branch office on East High Street, Pottstown.

POTTSTOWN PA – Even though Wachovia Bank has been owned by Wells Fargo since Jan. 1 (2009), don’t expect old signs to come down, or new ones to go up, anytime soon.

Wells Fargo corporate blogger Matt Wadley, in an article posted Monday (March 23, 2009), acknowledges “the Wachovia name will be gracefully retired in time.” Until financial centers are converted, however, “the Wachovia name and logo will continue to be used on their own in almost every case, including branch signs, account statements, Web site content and all the rest,” he wrote.

Wells Fargo agreed to buy Wachovia late last year after it suffered heavy financial losses as a result of the 2008 mortgage crisis. Wachovia  operates branch offices in Pottstown, Limerick, Boyertown, Phoenixville, and Collegeville.

The banks are conducting what Wells Fargo representative Kathryn Dinkin characterized as a gradual combination into “a seamless organization.” Re-branding could take as much as a year, she told the South Florida Business Journal earlier this month (March 16, 2009).

“It can be confusing to customers if you rebrand before you can deliver on that brand,” Dinkin told the business newspaper. “We will do it very slow and thoughtfully.”

Editor’s note: This article resulted from a reader inquiry received Wednesday (March 25, 2009). Club Revive Hitting The Road, Too

Academy Hall, 1700 Industial Hwy.

Academy Hall, 1700 Industial Hwy.

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – The apparent success of Club Revive, an under-age-21-only dance party that last week abruptly changed locations within the township, is prompting its owner to export the concept to even longer distance venues in the future.

Dance club founder Sandra McGuckin is taking the Revive show on the road April 3 (2009; Friday) to Boothwyn PA, Delaware County; and April 11 (2009; Saturday) to Allentown PA, Lehigh County. These dates are in addition to those scheduled for the club in Montgomery County, the most recent of which will be Friday (March 27, 2009) beginning at 7 p.m. in Academy Hall, 1700 Industrial Hwy.

The dance club has been involved in controversy this month. Several area police units responded March 13 (2009) to Sanatoga’s Sunnybrook Ballroom, where Club Revive previously was located, to break up minor fights as the club was closing. Two teens were charged with disorderly conduct as a result.

That incident was followed last week by public disagreement between Sunnybrook management and McGuckin as to whether another scheduled dance had been canceled or simply moved a half-mile south to Academy Hall. The dispute seems to have devolved into “we said-they said” contractual differences that at least one party claimed may be legally challenged.

The April 3 Boothwyn event is slated to be held at The Phoenix, 1661 Mill Rd. – a location behind Chichester High School – from 7-11:30 p.m., according to the club website. A $10-per-person fee is being charged before 9 p.m., and $12 thereafter.

The April 11 Allentown event is set for the Holiday Inn Conference Center Lehigh Valley, 7736 Adrienne Dr., also from 7-11:30 p.m. for an at-the-door cost of $12, the website adds. However, the club in recent weeks has advertised to Pottstown area teens that it will transport them to the Allentown dance on a school bus, and include admission and a free glow bracelet, for $10.

At their peak, Revive dances have attracted up to 400 participants per night. Given that attendance, at its current ticket prices and scheduling two dances monthly, club events present a potential for about $96,000 in gross annual revenue.

As for Friday’s event at Academy Hall, the website shouts, “Revive is still alive, everything you have come to love about us remains the same except the building it’s in.”

Editor’s Addendum (March 27, 2009):

The Club Revive website’s home page today notes that anyone age 18 or younger who intends to ride club buses to either its Allentown or Boothwyn dances during April must submit a completed permission form.

The form, an Adobe Acrobat document, requires parents or guardians to agree they will “release and indemnify, defend and hold harmless, Club Revive from and against any and all claims, actions, suits, or proceedings of any kind or nature arising as a result of the actions” of their child. It also requires release of “the officers, staff, and chaperones of Club Revive without limitations, from damages, liabilities, penalties, costs, expenses, legal fees, and claims.”
