Crowd Pours Into Pottstown For Cars

Hundreds of people Saturday roamed High Street during the first of this year's Pottstown Classic Car Shows.

Hundreds of people Saturday roamed High Street in downtown Pottstown during the first of this year's Classic Car Club shows.

POTTSTOWN PA – Warm temperatures, the sun shining through partly cloudy skies, and the attraction of hundreds of beautiful automobiles drew crowds to downtown Pottstown all afternoon- and evening-long Saturday (May 2, 2009) as the shopping district conducted several events to help drum up business.

The Pottstown Downtown Improvement District Authority promoted exercise and yoga demonstrations, held a riverside clean-up, and just for fun encouraged visitors to toss a bicycle or two on a back lot. But the day’s feature event was the first of this year’s Pottstown Classic Car Club shows. People jammed the streets to admire club members’ cars, ranging from vintage to muscle varieties.

A prime sponsor of the show itself was Sanatoga’s own Blast From The Past Street Rods Inc., the street rod and custom car shop located at 2965 E. High St.

"Steer me closer to that one, Dad. I like its color."

The club’s next shows are scheduled for June 6 (2009; Saturday) from 5-9 p.m., again on High Street downtown; and July 4 (2009; Saturday) from 1-4:45 p.m. in Pottstown’s Memorial Park on King Street.

In the interim, Blast From The Past will hold its fifth annual Open House and Cruise-In on June 20 (2009; Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Sanatoga site. Proceeds from that event will benefit Helping Hands Inc., the Bechtelsville PA-based non-profit that provides services to handicapped individuals and their families.
