Pottsgrove Relay Tweeters Not Alone

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Just as no person is an island, no Relay For Life runs alone.

Hundreds of people from across the Greater Pottstown area marched, skipped, hopped, walked or trudged the track Saturday and Sunday (May 30 and 31, 2009) at Pottsgrove High School stadium, 1345 Kauffman Rd., during the local Relay For Life fund-raiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. As they did, thousands more people in other towns like ours did the same.

Dozens of Relays For Life were held elsewhere during the same weekend, in a variety of states and even overseas. For some of their participants, a cell phone and a connection to Twitter – the popular Internet-based social network and short messaging application – were as necessary as a sturdy pair of walking shoes.

Above and below, find a series of celebratory Twitter messages (known as Tweets)  from other Relayers who, over the weekend, shared a common goal, a common cause, and commonly sore feet with those beating a path in Pottsgrove.

For those unfamiliar with Twitter, the photos on the left are selected by authors of the Tweets to visually represent themselves online; these images are known as  ”avatars.” The blue identifier at the start of each message is the online name of the author. Other blue identifiers, usually preceded by an “@” symbol, refer to other Twitter authors. And web addresses (blue text that often starts with “http://”  normally would link to other websites or photos. They have been disabled here.

Current Twitter users can find these Tweets and many more simply by searching for the phrase “relay for life” or the hashtag #relay.
