ARLINGTON VA – Brig. Gen. Elmer S. Friedberg, for whom the Pottsgrove American Legion Post has now officially been renamed, was bestowed full military honors Wednesday (July 1, 2009) as he was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
A Pottstown optometrist, who received the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism in saving the lives of his flight crew, Friedberg died April 17 (2009) at age 92.
Dozens of family members, friends, and those whose lives Friedberg touched, made the trek to the Virginia suburbs of the nation’s capital to pay tribute. The Legion’s honor guard participated in the inurnment ceremony.

The flag that draped the general's casket is carefully and crisply folded, as an honor detail stands watch.

The general's ashes are carried to his grave site.
Editor’s Note: These photos were taken, and shared with our readers, by Adjutant William C.”Billy” Worrell of the Pottsgroves’ Brig. Gen. Elmer S. Friedberg American Legion Post. Worrell, like many other Legion members Wednesday, left by bus early in the morning from the parking lot of the Sanatoga Thriftway, spent the day attending to official duties, and returned late last night. He still found time at 12:29 a.m. today to upload more than 190 photos, from which we were able to choose the modest selection presented here. We sincerely thank him for his efforts.
