SANATOGA PA – Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township resident Robert Mohollen has been promoted as a full member of the township Zoning Hearing Board to succeed David Marsteller, who resigned several weeks ago. Mohollen previously was a board alternate member.
Departing township Commissioner Stephen Klotz, whose face and name are familiar to local voters, has been named as the new alternate to succeed Mohollen. Klotz, who lost a May 2009 primary election bid to become township district magistrate, is not running for re-election as commissioner. His service as an alternate begins in January, after his current term ends.
Both appointments were unanimously approved Thursday (July 23, 2009) during the second monthly commissioners’ meeting in the municipal building on Buchert Road. Klotz was absent from the meeting and did not vote.
The position of alternate is similar to that of an understudy, according to township Manager Rodney Hawthorne. Alternates act in an official capacity on the zoning hearing board only if they substitute for absent members when the board lacks a quorum to conduct its business, Hawthorne said.
