POTTSTOWN PA – In a brief but warm and festive ceremony Thursday night (Sept. 3, 2009), Michael Foltz was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in the Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township Police Department.
Surrounded by family, friends and fellow officers, Foltz took his oath of office and then smiled for professional and amateur photographers as the moment was recorded. Formerly a sergeant, Foltz becomes the department’s first detective-lieutenant and will help supervise and assign its roster of 17 officers. Police Chief Michael Shade praised him as “highly qualified” for the position.
Foltz has handled, and collaborated with fellow officers on, many high profile cases over the years. Most recently, the chief noted in his August (2009) report, Foltz worked with Delaware law enforcement officials to track down a suspect located in Bethany Beach who was wanted in a local theft and prescription fraud case. The charges are now pending trial.
Creating a more well defined rank-and-file within the department has been a goal of the township Board of Commissioners for more than two years, board member Stephen Klotz said. He congratulated both candidates who sought the position, and said he was pleased the department “is in such good shape.”
The promotion ceremony marked the start of the commissioners’ first of two September meetings in the municipal building, Buchert Road, Pottstown PA.
