SANATOGA PA – That popping noise you can expect to hear tonight (Monday, Oct. 5, 2009), coming from the Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township municipal building at 2199 Buchert Rd., Pottstown PA, will be the sound of exploding bursts of digital camera flashes.

The township Board of Commissioners, during the first of its two October meetings, will be witness at 7 p.m. to Police Chief Michael Shade’s annual presentation of his department‘s Officer of the Year Award. It is a highly anticipated event, and the building’s conference room is usually packed with policemen, politicians, and family members and friends … all armed with photographic equipment.

The honoree has already been notified, but his or her name won’t be publicly revealed until the presentation is made. A life saving award also is scheduled to be presented. The public is welcome to attend.

Once the celebrations end, the commissioners return to the less glamorous – but some will contend no less important – business of running the municipality. On their agenda:

  • Plans to apply for Montgomery County (PA) Jump Start grant funds for local transportation projects;
  • A lease agreement between the township and its Sewer Authority for property on Brown Street;
  • Consideration of a policy regarding assistance for the hearing impaired; and
  • An executive session to discuss a personnel matter.

A copy of the board agenda is available for download from the township website.
