HARRISBURG PA – Flags at Pennsylvania buildings and facilities are being flown today at half-staff in honor of all who died Dec. 7, 1941 – commemorated today (Monday, Dec. 7, 2009) as Pearl Harbor Day – as well as “all military heroes who have given their lives to ensure the protection and safety of our nation and its citizens,” according to Gov. Ed Rendell.
The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor killed 2,403 Americans and led the United States to enter World War II. The U.S.S. Pennsylvania, in dry dock at Pearl Harbor, was among the first ships to return fire on Japanese warplanes.
