Have Fun Sunday At Young Child Observance

POTTSTOWN PA – An art show, a petting zoo, a moon bounce, activities conducted by the Pottstown Police Department, and appearances by the Reading Phillies’ mascot Screwball and Pipper the Clown all are part of the fourth annual “Month of the Young Child” observance being held Sunday (April 11, 2010) from 2-4 p.m. at the Pottstown YMCA, 724 N. Adams St., Pottstown PA.

Expect the Reading Phillies' mascot Screwball to be in attendance.

The event, which is free and open to the public, “is always a great way to raise awareness for early education, as well as an enjoyable afternoon for the whole family,” according to Mary Rieck, coordinator of the Pottstown School District’s Pottstown Early Action for Kindergarten Readiness (PEAK) program.

PEAK is a partnership between the Pottstown district and community early learning programs and agencies. Its goal is to prepare children and families for success in kindergarten. For more information about the day or PEAK, call 610-970-6655.

More than 20 community organizations, some of them based in Sanatoga and Lower Pottsgrove, will provide family activities, screenings, or introduce their services during the day. “We look forward to finding new ways to help” Pottstown area children enter kindergarten “ready to learn and achieve,” Reick added.
