SANATOGA PA – Thanks to contributions from patients and the public, Dr. Niraj Patel and the staff of his Chiropractic and Wellness Center, 1630 E. High St. Bldg. 3, Pottstown PA, recently donated dozens of items for use by more than 100 soldiers in the Pennsylvania National Guard’s 228th Engineer Company, who deployed last month to Iraq.
Donations included 299 pairs of socks, 20 DVDs, phone calling cards valued at $500, and five cases of Girl Scout cookies. Most items were collected as donations in lieu of payment to the center from new and existing patients, center spokesman Chris Rucco said Tuesday (April 6, 2010).
The “Hearts For Soldiers” donations were collected by Pottsgrove American Legion Post 244 Adjutant William Worrell and delivered to the Spring City PA Armory, from which the troops deployed March 7. The collection effort “was a huge success,” Patel said, as a result of participation by members of the Vietnam Veterans Of America Keystone Chapter No. 565, American Legion Post 244, and business owners.
Hearts For Soldiers represents only the latest community effort of which Patel and his office staff have been a part. They also have supported Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society, and the Pottstown School District, most often in the same way: exchanging patient donations for specific services offered by the chiropractor.
Public donations for the troops continue to be accepted at Patel’s office, 610-323-6858, or by the local Vietnam Veterans of America chapter, 610-705-4365.
