ON THE ROAD TO CHESTER – This Dec. 6, 1942, postcard, published by Curt Teich and Company Inc. of Chicago IL, depicts what was the the Old Court House in Chester PA. The Post purchased the card, No. 8A-H670, in January 2010. The publisher noted that the court house was erected in 1724 “during the reign of George I of England,” and served as the courthouse of Chester County from 1724-1786. Drivers interested in traveling to the site today from the center of Sanatoga village (at the corner of East High Street and North Pleasant View Road), would take U.S. Route 422 east to King of Prussia, then east on Interstate 76 (the Schuylkill Expressway) and south on Interstate 476 (the Blue Route) for a total of 40 miles, as shown on the Google map below. The hand-written note on the front of the card, in the bottom margin, says “Get married for two bucks here.”
Editor’s Note: When The Post takes a road trip, its readers go too. “Travels With The Post” is a series that reports on places and activities beyond our usual coverage area, but most often within a drive of three hours or less.
