Stuff To Do This Weekend

Friday, July 23

Up for a challenge? The Amity Chess Club meets from 7-10 p.m. at St. Paul’s UCC Church, 1312 Old Swede Rd., Douglassville PA, for chess matches and lessons at all ages and skill levels. For more information, call 610-385-6324.

Surprise! No really, that’s who the disc jockey will be Friday from 8-11 p.m. in Sunnybrook Ballroom, 50 Sunnybrook Rd., Sanatoga PA,  when the ballroom hosts its weekly adult dance and mixer. It’s DJ Surprise. A $5 admission fee will be charged at the door. The doors open at 7:45 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 484-624-5186.

Saturday, July 24

The Phoenixville Farmers Market, located beneath the Gay Street bridge, Phoenixville PA, now runs weekly on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through November. The market can be reached from Taylors Alley.

The Skippack Farmers Market, located on the south side of Route 73, just east of its intersection with Route 113, Skippack PA, now runs weekly on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through September.

Kring’s Stove and Fireplaces of Boyertown is scheduled to provide a grill for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., so vendors can cook up locally grown foods to sample during the Boyertown Farmers Market, located at 100 S. Walnut St., Boyertown PA. Other recipes will be available for those who want to experiment at home. The market now runs weekly through Oct. 30, and is held rain or shine. It occupies the parking lot of The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, two blocks south of the intersection of Routes 562 and 73.

A chicken barbecue that offers eat-in or take-out meals with dessert, as well as craft and baked goods tables, will be held Saturday from 3-7 p.m. at St. Vincent’s United Church of Christ, Route 23, Kimberton PA. Tickets cost $9 for adults and $4.75 for children age 12 and younger.

Sunday, July 25

A “Dog Wash For Cancer” fund-raiser to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Program will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sanatoga’s Driven AutoPlex, 2148 E. High St., Pottstown PA. Suggested donations include $10 for a shamoo, $5 for nail trimming, and $5 for ear cleaning. For more information, call 484-624-4142.

A chicken barbecue, featuring dinners that include a half chicken, pickled cabbage, baked beans, and a roll with butter, will be held Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m. a the Seisholtzville Fire Company, 24 St. Peters Rd., Hereford Township PA.

The Lower Pottsgrove Historical Society has scheduled its free monthly museum open house Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the society’s headquarters and museum in the former Sanatoga Chapel, 2341 E. High St., Sanatoga PA. Society members will be on hand to greet visitors, and light refreshments will be available.

The Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township Parks and Recreation Department continues its series of summer concerts Sunday at 6 p.m. with a show by the Barbone Street Jazz Band at the Sanatoga Park band shell, 100 S. Sanatoga Rd., Pottstown PA. The concerts are sponsored by Exelon Nuclear. In case of inclement weather, the show will be automatically re-scheduled to Monday at 7 p.m. Weather cancellation notices will be posted Sundays after 4 p.m. at the township website.
