WHERE ARE WE AT? – At the request Monday (Aug. 2, 2010) of the Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township Board of Commissioners, the township engineering firm of Bursich Associates will attempt to learn from the state Department of Transportation about progress in reconstruction of the East High Street Bridge crossing Sanatoga Creek at Sanatoga Road. The bridge has been closed since June 14 as PennDOT contractors rebuild the deteriorating structure. Problem is, commissioners openly complained during their first meeting of this month, they rarely see workers on site after 3 p.m. during weekdays. They fear the bridge won’t be re-opened, as promised, by the month-end start of school. This Post file photo shows the bridge as it appeared July 9, with reinforcing steel laid into the its road surface.

A schedule and routine updates should be mandated to PENDOT. I recall the Sanatoga Bridge over the Schuylkill being abandoned and allowed to decay..
Everyone should call their represenative and let him know we need ongoing reports and information as well as a kick in the ass to PENDOT to do what was promised.
The state being the occasionally stubborn entity that it is, Ed, means I doubt township commissioners can force it to offer an update on the bridge’s status. I think everyone agrees it would be in PennDOT’s best interests to keep all involved in the loop. I’m willing to bet Lower Pottsgrove’s board gets a progress report by the time it next meets.
