Kindergarten Orientation Kicks Off Pottsgrove Prep Week

The former Pius X High School, now the temporary home of Pottsgrove's Ringing Rocks Elementary School students, on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 22, 2010) still offered a departing message to the borough. It's sure to be changed before Tuesday, when kindergarten pupils are welcomed for orientation.

POTTSTOWN PA – Kindergarten orientation in Pottsgrove School District elementary schools will be held tomorrow (Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010), and kicks off an intense final week of preparations before the district’s official first day of school next Monday (Aug. 30).

District teachers and administrators hope to ease the way during the first public school experience for most youngsters. That’s why sessions for the newcomers will begin at 9:30 a.m. for those attending kindergarten during the mornings; at 11 a.m. for those attending in afternoons; and at 1 p.m. for those who will attend for full days.

Like other students, kindergarteners also have had to complete a reading list during the summer months … with their parents’ help, of course. Parents should have finished reading books on the list to their children by Tuesday. It contains 20 different works, covering everything from the alphabet and animals to families, friendships and fairy tales.

Teachers have had time to put their classrooms in shape during the summer, too. They’ll gather again this week for district staff in-service days on Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 25-26).

Schools will operate Aug. 30 through Sept. 2 (Thursday), then close Sept. 3-6 for the Labor Day holiday weekend.
