Stuff To Do This Weekend

SANATOGA PA – Activities for western Montgomery County residents (and anyone else!) for the Labor Day weekend from Sept. 3-6, 2010:

Friday, Sept. 3

Up for a challenge? The Amity Chess Club meets from 7-10 p.m. at St. Paul’s UCC Church, 1312 Old Swede Rd., Douglassville PA, for chess matches and lessons at all ages and skill levels. For more information, call 610-385-6324.

Saturday, Sept. 4

The Phoenixville Farmers Market, located beneath the Gay Street bridge, Phoenixville PA, now runs weekly on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through November. The market can be reached from Taylors Alley.

Labyrinth Used Books and Gifts will hold a book sale Saturday (Sept. 4, 2010), and on the first Saturday of every month, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. inside the First United Methodist Church, 414 High St., Pottstown PA. A bag of books sells for $5, plus tax; the shop provides the bag.

The Skippack Farmers Market, located on the south side of Route 73, just east of its intersection with Route 113, Skippack PA, now runs weekly on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through September.

The Boyertown Farmers Market, located at 100 S. Walnut St., Boyertown PA, now runs weekly on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 30. All markets are rain or shine. The market occupies the parking lot of The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, two blocks south of the intersection of Routes 562 and 73.

The 67th annual Ludwig’s Corner Horse Show and Country Fair is set to debut Saturday (Sept. 4, 2010) and continue through Monday (Sept. 6) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the show grounds on the west side of Route 100 south in Ludwigs Corner PA, near the intersection of Route 401. The show is expected to feature more than 500 competitors in a variety of different divisions and classes, including hunters, jumpers, sidesaddle, pleasure and family riding. A car show, automotive flea market, and several retail tents also will be open. Tickets cost $7 daily for adults, and $3 for children. For more information, call 610-458-3344.

Downtown Pottstown PA will observe the Labor Day holiday with its First Saturday celebration at Smith Family Plaza, 100 High St., in the heart of the business district from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Several fun family ativities and demonstrations by local businesses and organizations are scheduled. Musical performance will be offered by Dina Hall from Noon to 2 p.m. A “men In Spikes” fund-raiser is planned, and a bake sale will be held to benefit the Forgotten Cats project.

A first-ever “Hot Wheels Drag Racing Tournament,” featuring the popular toy vehicles in a race down a portion of High Street in downtown Pottstown PA, will be part of the Nostalgia Night classic car show being conducted by the Pottstown Classics Car Club on Saturday (Sept. 4, 2010) from 5-9 p.m. Any owners of a Hot Wheels or Matchbox-branded toy can compete for a trophy. The show itself features dozens of club members’ cars on display and lining the street. The event is free.
