The front entrance to Ringing Rocks has already been taken apart.
POTTSTOWN PA – Most of the initial demolition work needed for reconstruction of the Pottsgrove School District’s Ringing Rocks Elementary School so far has taken place on the inside of the building, district Facilities Director Michael Katzenmoyer said Tuesday (Oct. 12, 2010). That’s about to change.
“Things are progressing really well” as Ringing Rocks is re-built and expanded at its Kauffman Road, Pottstown PA, site, Katzenmoyer reported to the district Board of School Directors during its meeting. Much of its couldn’t be seen by passers-by, however, because it primarily involved ceiling, wall and flooring removal.
Now the outside of the structure will be disassembled. Rooftop mechanical systems have already been removed. Workers were scheduled to begin removing the school’s roofing Wednesday (Oct. 13), and more exterior demolition will follow during the next two weeks, Katzenmoyer said. “The remaining demolition is pretty far along,” he added.
The district has not yet received a schedule from its heating contractor for boring to begin on the play fields, just west of the school, where its new geothermal heating system is to be installed. At the request of board President Michael Neiffer, Katzenmoyer said he would check into and later report on Neiffer’s concerns about possible geothermal repairs at a nearby school district.
Student transitions in Ringing Rocks temporary home, the former St. Pius X High School on North Keim Street, seem to be going just as smoothly, Principal Michelle Bozzini told directors. “I think it’s mostly because we’re happy that we’re together in the same building,” she said. “There’s been a lot of warmth from students, parents and teachers.”
The alternative, which was to have house students in modular classrooms on the Pottsgrove Middle School campus on North Hanover Street, Pottstown, “would not have been so ideal,” Bozzini noted.

I was curious about a time capsule that I think may have been buried somewhere at Ringing Rocks … my brother (who has since passed) was in one of the first classes to go to that school, I think it was about 1965ish … I would be interested to see if there is anything in there that my brother may have put in there … any info would be appreciated.
Hi, Ginette. Thanks for your note. I’ll do some research and learn what I can, then follow up. I am told that, while Ringing Rocks has never been fully rehabbed as is being done now, it has undergone several structural changes since its opening. The time capsule may (or may not) have been disturbed in previous fixes. Let me check.
