Lower Pottsgrove Basketball Registration Starts Nov. 1

POTTSTOWN PA – Now officially in its 25th season, the Lower Pottsgrove Athletic Association (LPAA) will begin accepting registrations beginning next Monday (Nov. 1, 2010) from boys and girls in grades 3-8 interested in playing recreational basketball, LPAA Director Jim Kaiser reported in an e-mail.

Registration and medical release forms – which are available from the LPAA website, here – and accompanying fees can be delivered to the upper lobby of Pottsgrove Middle School, 1351 N. Hanover St., Pottstown PA, on these dates and times:

  • Nov. 1 (Monday), 6-8 p.m.;
  • Nov. 2 (Tuesday), 6-8 p.m.;
  • Nov. 3 (Wednesday), 6-8 p.m.; and
  • Nov. 6 (Saturday), 9 a.m. to noon.

Registration costs are unchanged from last year, at $45 for players in grades 3-6 and $50 for grades 7-8. Cash or checks will be accepted. A $15 late fee will be charged for registrations postmarked after Nov. 20. Checks must be made payable to LPAA Basketball. For more information, call 610-970-2175.

Practices, skills training, and games for grades 3-6 will be held Saturdays from Dec. 4 (2010) through March 19 (2011) at the middle school, for four 90-minute periods that range from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., depending on grade and team gender. Practices for 7th and 8th graders will run Mondays through Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. at the middle school starting in January; their games will be similarly scheduled from early February through the end of March.

LPAA is a local youth sports program that “continues to grow year after year,” its website notes. Directors for the program include Kaiser; Steve Klotz, 7th and 8th grade boys director; Chuck Bleakley, personnel; and Brian Carroll, facilities. A director for 7th and 8th grade girls has yet to be named.

New for this year is the program’s presence on Twitter, which will be used to deliver announcements, weather alerts and cancellation notices.
