POTTSTOWN PA – Peter Pansing, a member of The Hill School Class of 1963, hopes his Pottstown PA alma mater can again position itself at the peak of rowing history.
Pansing and about 20 other alums of the college prepatory school on the north side of High Street gathered Oct. 30 and 31 (2010; Saturday and Sunday) to compete in The Thomas Eakins Head Of The Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia PA. The race, known as the city’s fall rowing classic, marked its 40th anniversary this year. Now a 2.6 mile course, the event started in 1970 as a 1,000-meter sculls race founded by four members of the University Barge Club … one of whom was a Hill School grad himself.
Organized by fellow Hill alumni Davis Bales, the October group “sought to encourage rowing at Hill and celebrated as completely as possible the (regatta’s) anniversary,” Pansing wrote in an entry posted Wednesday (Nov. 10) at his YouTube account.
