Today’s The Birthday Of Your Bill Of Rights

POTTSTOWN PA – A celebration of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and the accompanying American Bill of Rights, which took hold nationwide during July (2010), continues today (Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010) in The Post Publications – The Sanatoga Post, The Limerick Post, The Pottstown Post, and The Main Street Post – and thousands of other media outlets across the country.

Today marks the 219th anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights, the document that consists of the first 10 amendments to the Constitution.

The First Amendment is a simple yet eloquently written, single-sentence guarantee of freedoms enjoyed by all United States residents: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

The Posts joined other publishers in all 50 states six months ago in running a series of public service advertisements promoting the First Amendment. The campaign, called “1 For All,” received broad support. At the time Post Publications’ Managing Editor Joe Zlomek said his company was “happy to be a small partner in a much larger and incredibly important campaign.”

Today’s ad (above), which recognizes the Bill of Rights’ anniversary, re-affirms that importance, Zlomek added. “Without the freedoms afforded by the First Amendment and the Bill of Rights, neither we or any members of the press could effectively serve this or any community. We’re lucky to be able to rely on them.”

The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees freedoms enjoyed by all of our nation’s residents.
