SANATOGA PA – Ooops.
That’s essentially what Lower Pottsgrove officials said earlier this month (Dec. 6, 2010) when they learned an auditor of the pension plan for non-uniformed township employees – those other than members of the police department – found a clerical error dating back to 2006.
The auditor determined that, for the purpose of receiving supplementary state funds during the past four years, the start date of participation for the plan reported by the township to Pennsylvania authorities didn’t match the date in the plan document.
Lower Pottsgrove had two options to correct the error, the auditor figured. It could return some of the money to the state, or it could pass an ordinance to ensure the dates matched.
Township commissioners recognized a no-brainer when they saw it. To keep the money already received, they unanimously and without comment voted to advertise their intent to match the dates. The ordinance itself is expected to be similarly approved during January (2011).
