Demolition and reconstruction of Ringing Rocks Elementary School, which was well under way last October, is now about 25 percent complete.
POTTSTOWN PA – Whether or not change is good, in the case of the reconstruction of the Pottsgrove School District‘s Ringing Rocks Elementary School, change – at least as measured by construction change orders – so far has been minimal.
Construction change orders are adjustments, up or down … but more often up, in the cost of a project. They’re usually requested when a contractor finds a problem that wasn’t anticipated by architects or engineers, but needs to be addressed or fixed.
The district, during its Board of School Directors’ meeting Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2011) at 7:30 p.m. in West Pottsgrove Elementary School, Grosstown Road, Pottstown PA, is expected to acknowledge that about 25 percent of the general contractor’s $6.5 million expansion and re-building work at the Ringing Rocks site on Kauffman Road in Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Towship is complete. To date, though, change orders costing less than one-half of one percent, or $28,373, have been requested.
It’s a small number; so far so good, many construction managers would say.
Directors will be asked Tuesday to approve a change order costing $11,525, according to the board meeting agenda the district released Friday afternoon (Jan. 7), but its purpose is not identified. The meeting is open to the public. The agenda should be available for download from the district’s website, here.
Directors also will be asked to approve payments to the contractors involved in the Ringing project for work they’ve finished to date. One of them, handling the building’s plumbing, so far have requested change orders that actually lowered the district’s cost by $2,478, the agenda shows.
January has been designated as “School Director Recognition Month” by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association. The district administration, in a note accompanying the agenda, offered its thanks to “our Board of School Directors for their countless hours of service to the Pottsgrove School District and the communities it serves.”
