POTTSTOWN PA – Approval of a budget within their 2011-2012 budget will be sought tonight (Tuesday, March 8, 2011) from members of the Pottsgrove School District Board of School Directors when it meets at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School, 1329 Buchert Rd., Pottstown PA.

Lower Pottsgrove Elementary, where the school board will meet Tuesday night.
Its meeting agenda indicates directors will be asked to accept the 2011-2012 budget of the Norristown-based Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU), of which the district is a part and which provides it with a variety of programs and services. The budget amount is not specified in the agenda distributed Friday (March 4), but it does carry specific instructions on how the vote must be conducted.
The meeting is open to the public. The board agenda can be downloaded from the district website, here.
The MCIU spending plan for next year actually consists of four separate budgets, one each for general administration costs, curriculum and staff development, state and federal legislative services, and technology and information services. The 2010-2011 budgets reportedly totaled $8.7 million. Pottsgrove and other member districts each paid a proportionate share of that amount.
The MCIU was among 29 intermediate units formed across the state in the early 1970s to help school districts within their regions to receive services at shared costs that might otherwise be too expensive to obtain on their own. Each of the MCIU’s 22 member districts is represented on its board; Pottsgrove’s representative is Director Fred Remelius.
MCIU expenses are minor components within the district’s own 2011-2012 preliminary budget of $58.5 million, according to Business Administrator David Nester.
Also tonight, according to the agenda, directors are scheduled to:
- “Approve a settlement agreement with a former student.” The agenda does not identify the student, specify the nature of the settlement, its value, or why directors are being asked to approve it; and
- Act on several personnel and administrative recommendations.
