POTTSTOWN PA – Payments by the Pottsgrove School District for its portion of the operating budget of the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit in Norristown PA, which supplies the district with a variety of centralized services, will amount to $28,098 during the unit’s 2011-2012 budget year, district Business Administrator David Nester reported.
That’s on the low end of payments being made by districts across the county, a schedule of next year’s contributions shows. Of 22 districts receiving MCIU services, payments range from a high of $196,563 (by North Penn) to a low of $755 (by Bryn Athyn); the average is $64,177. Among other local districts, Spring-Ford is scheduled to pay $98,725; and Pottstown, $22,115.
MCIU’s combined curriculum, legislative and technology budgets next year total $1.41 million, up 1.4 percent from the current year.
Members of the Board of School Directors are required by law each year to approve the MCIU budget, because Pottsgrove – like other districts within the county – is represented on the MCIU board. They also must approve the amount the district intends to spend in the coming year for the unit’s services. Both were adopted last month (March 2011).
Intermediate units across Pennsylvania are expected to play a potentially larger role in supplying services to most schools if, as proposed, future state funding for districts is cut.
