Parents Invited To Pottsgrove’s Teen Driving Talk

POTTSTOWN PA – To underscore the need for teens to drive safely, and as a reminder of the tragedies wrought by highway accidents, the latest in a series of upcoming seminars for young drivers will feature as speakers the mothers of two beloved Pottsgrove High School students who died in an automobile accident 17 months ago, Principal Chris Shaffer said Tuesday (April 12, 2011).

Marlene Case and Karen Cantamaglia – the mothers of Andrew Case and Michael Cantamaglia, who were killed in a car crash during Thanksgiving vacation in November 2009 – will be among the guest facilitators in a “Safe Driving Assembly” scheduled for Monday (April 18) from 12:30-1:15 p.m. in the auditorium at the high school, 1345 Kauffman Rd., Pottstown PA.

In an e-mail distributed Tuesday, Shaffer invited the parents of all Pottsgrove High students to attend the session. Reservations are requested; to reserve a seat, call Jill Ludy at the high school, at 610-326-5105, Ext. 6381 by Monday at 8 a.m.

Also participating in the assembly, Shaffer said, will be Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Bradford Richman. Because of the assembly’s potentially emotional content, the principal added, counselors will be available throughout the day in the high school library to offer support to any student or parent who requests it.

Also scheduled in the series are “Survival 101,” a presentation by Lower Pottsgrove Police Department Ofc. Will James, who also is the school’s resource officer on April 29; and the “Safety Bug,” a lesson in safe driving using a specially altered Volkswagen Beetle, scheduled for May 26. All three are sponsored by the high school’s SNAP Academy, the “Student Needs Assistance Program.”
