Teachers’ Contract Extension On Pottsgrove Agenda

Pottsgrove High School

POTTSTOWN PA – An agreed-upon one-year labor contract extension between the Pottsgrove School District and its teachers’ union, the Pottsgrove Education Association, is expected to be ratified during tonight’s (Tuesday, May 10, 2011) meeting of the district Board of School Directors. It begins at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Pottsgrove High School, 1345 Kauffman Rd., Pottstown PA.

The meeting is open to the public. A large crowd is anticipated to attend, as the union has urged its membership to turn out in force as a show of support for the agreement. A copy of the board agenda, which has been available since Friday (May 6), can be downloaded here.

The teachers have offered to accept a pay freeze for the one-year period, saving what school district officials said was $515,000 in costs under its 2011-2012 preliminary budget. The district, in turn, has agreed not to layoff any teachers during the same period.

Also tonight, directors are expected to approve a measure that imposes a similar pay freeze, saving about $70,000, on members of the district administration. They, too, volunteered for the measure.
