Township Resident Opening ‘Burger Joint’ At Upland

POTTSTOWN PA – After months of work to choose the right business, secure franchise rights, and negotiate a lease for the best possible location, Lower Pottsgrove (PA) businesswoman Lynda Hendershot is preparing to open the newest of what is billed as “America’s hometown burger joint,” a Jake’s Wayback Burgers restaurant in the Upland Square Shopping Center, 255 Upland Square Drive, Pottstown PA.

Hendershot’s operation, which she says is destined to employ 30 people, is scheduled to open during July. It will be one of nine new Jake’s locations, four of them in Pennsylvania, set to launch within the next three months, the Cheshire CT-based company announced Wednesday (May 11, 2011).

Jake’s so far has 27 restaurants located in eight states, many across the mid-Atlantic region. It is “rapidly expanding” and expects to sell more than 100 franchises this year alone, according to company spokesperson Gillian Maffeo. Other locations to open this month, and during June and July, are in New York and Ohio markets, Maffeo said.

Hendershot, who sampled more than a few hamburgers in her research phase, reports Jake’s sandwiches are “hand-pattied from 100% fresh, never-frozen ground beef and grilled to order.” The restaurant also will offer milkshakes made by hand, marinated grilled chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, turkey burgers, salads and house-made chips.

Construction at Upland Square is already under way.
