Traffic on U.S. Route 422 in Sanatoga
OAKS PA – With U.S. Route 422 serving as a backdrop for a Thursday (June 9, 2011) press conference, some area legislators – including state Rep. Tom Quigley, who represents Lower Pottsgrove, Pottstown and Limerick – made it clear they were not convinced that imposing tolls on the highway’s drivers was an answer for its financial future, WFMZ-TV Channel 69 reported.
Quigley openly questioned if, over a period of several years, money initially dedicated to 422 from its tolls wouldn’t be used to fund other legislative projects. He was joined at the media event by four other House representatives whose districts cover from Montgomery, Chester and Berks counties.

I want to know what PennDOT allocates annually for Route 422 maintenance. I’d like to understand how this route differs from Route 202 or Route 309 or Route 1. All these roads are major arterials and all are crowded. What makes the residents along Route 422 the soft underbelly that the trollers wish to attack?
I remain opposed to trolling Route 422. I want to insist on less technology and more road maintenance for this roadway. Less CCTV and electronic bulletin boards, and more roadway rehab.
There’s no guarantee that funds collected will stay on Route 422. They’ve already admitted a desire to pay for rail improvements. Politicians were really impressed by the means exposed to collect trolls from us and the easy manner in which monies could be extracted on 422 and soon other roadways.
Let’s get our money’s worth. We already pay for the road with gas taxes, license and registration fees, and PA tax revenues. Stop wasting the funds and spend effectively.
Out in Lancaster the many major roadways there have recently been rebuilt, repaired, and rehabbed. No tolls were needed. Only efficient contracting and clean (non-corrupt) management. Why not here as well?
Again, folks, unless you want to pay .25 per exit traveled, start voicing your opinions on this.
I completely agree with you!!! Do they think having the road as a toll road will keep people coming to the local businesses along the 422 corridor like the outlets?! Also, who wants to tell guests visiting them in this area that the road is a toll road but don’t worry about having to pay for your use while you visit, they are going to send you a bill in the mail!
I think tolling the road is an excuse for some elected officials doing their job. It’s an insane proposal and I’m SICK of worrying that it might some day happen. Can we put an end to this proposal once and for all?!
