Italian Restaurant Construction Could Start Within Weeks

SANATOGA PA – The last hurdle in building the Bella Italia Pizzeria restaurant, proposed to occupy vacant land at 2209 E. High St., Pottstown, was cleared Thursday night (July 7, 2011) as the Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to approve its owners’ final land development plan. Construction could start within several weeks, depending on when outside agencies finish related reviews.

“We’re ready to start just as soon as everything else is,” said Mary Cilluffo, representing her development company, Cilluffo Property Holdings LLC of Blue Bell PA. It introduced the proposed construction of a restaurant on the west side of the former Rite Aid Pharmacy, near the corner of East High and North Pleasant View Road, back in November 2009.

Cilluffo looks to build a 4,500-square-foot, one-story building on the property, facing East High Street and with both entrances and exits to East High. The building would contain the restaurant, of 2,500-square-feet, and two smaller offices available for lease. A 900-square-foot patio, complete with water fountain, would be located outside the restaurant for diners to enjoy at adjacent tables.

In the set of plans delivered Thursday to board members, township Assistant Manager Alyson Elliott noted Cilluffo was requesting a waiver on the depth of curbing required by the township. It was needed to match curbing standards set by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, which controls public access to the restaurant from East High Street. No problem, commissioners replied.

After 20 months of meetings, the Cilluffo final vote occurred within six minutes.

The recipe had me at streusel. Because I haven’t perfected frosting a cupcake, let alone a cake, a streusel is a good, probably even better alternative. Instead of buttercream or cream cheese frosting, I like topping cupcakes with streusel, which is a mixture of flour, butter, sugar and sometimes nuts. It forms a light, sweet, […]

The pork belly is prepared Filipino Style.  First, simmered with salt, bay leaves, garlic and onion, then deep fried over a low heat.  Right before serving, the pork belly is fried again at a higher heat – there is something truly magical when you’re left with the most tender pork belly and super crispy skin. Tikka Masala is a flavorful silky sauce with cream and tomatoes. Not too hot, but rich and creamy. What was remarkable was that it was much easier to make than I thought. And some gross pantry insufficiencies lead to wonderful discoveries in substitutions–which I now call essential ingredients!! […]

I hope you all enjoyed Valentine’s day in whatever fashion you chose to celebrate! My day was mostly spent tinkering around the house at a rate of zero productivity. It has never actually occurred to me to celebrate Valentine’s day in my adult life, mostly because I experience a generally adverse reaction to the idea […]

During the month of January, my wife and I did the Whole30 challenge. The challenge is very similar to our current diet, but without any dairy, white potatoes, white rice, or sweeteners like honey and maple syrup. I felt great all month, but I did struggle with maintaining my weight (I’m a pretty skinny guy). […]
