Commercial and condo properties were approved for tax assessment settlements
SANATOGA PA – Win some, lose some, the Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township Board of Commissioners figures.
Board members Monday (Aug. 1) formally approved separate agreements to settle tax assessment appeals with two property owners, as recommended by Solicitor R. Kurtz Holloway. In the first, the township will be paid more tax money than it initially expected; in the second, it will owe a small refund to the taxpayer. When all is said and done, its net gain amounts to about $677.
Both appeals were contended by the Pottsgrove School District which, Holloway explained, usually takes the lead in such matters because taxes it collects are significantly higher than those of the township. Having reviewed the accompanying paperwork, he deemed the results acceptable for board consideration.
One case involves Heritage-Sunnybrook L.P., the commercial development firm that created the professional office park and residential community that stretches north and west from Heritage Drive at its intersection with East High Street in the heart of the Sanatoga village district. Under the settlement, the down-and-up assessed value of Heritage property during the past two years will result in an additional tax payment to the township of $725.
The second case deals with East High Street condominium units owned by James Reading. Under that settlement, Lower Pottsgrove will pay Reading a refund of about $48.
At rates charged by Holloway’s law firm, board President Jonathan Spadt joked as the attorney finished describing the Reading deal, “it cost us more to have you read that than what we’ll pay in a refund.” Holloway simply smiled.

[...] Tax Settlements: An Awful Lot Of Paperwork To Net $677 Every little bit of tax revenue helps, Lower Pottsgrove commissioners agree.
