Several Report Interest In Township Planning Vacancy

SANATOGA PA – Several people have already expressed interest in succeeding Lower Pottsgrove resident Nicholas Hiriak in serving on the township Planning Commission, Board of Commissioners‘ President Jonathan Spadt said Monday (Aug. 1, 2011) and yes, he confirmed, Rivendell Lane home owner P.J. McGill’s name is on the list.

P.J. McGill

McGill personally appeared before board members during their meeting in the municipal building to repeat his desire to be considered a candidate for the position; he sent an initial e-mail on the subject to Spadt and Manager Rodney Hawthorne fewer than 18 hours after Hiriak announced July 18 he had resigned because of time constraints.

McGill previously complained he was passed over for a planning commission vacancy last year, when then-Chairman Geoffrey Dailey retired and the Board of Commissioners selected Anthony Cherico for the open seat.

To ensure everyone who wants to participate in township planning gets a chance, Spadt said, a note on Lower Pottsgrove’s website now calls for them to speak up and be known. “Residents interested … should submit a completed application, resume, and cover letter” by no later than Sept. 6 to the municipal building “during normal business hours” (Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Paperwork may also be mailed, or faxed to 610-323-3824, it said.

For their part, commissioners asked that a letter be sent to Hiriak accepting his resignation “with regret.” “We’re losing a good person on that committee, someone who’s been at it a long while,” board Vice President Bruce Foltz said.
