POTTSTOWN PA – There’s apparently no shortage of Pottsgrove School District residents willing to serve on its Elementary Redistricting Committee, Superintendent Dr. Bradley Landis told members of the Board of School Directors during their meeting Tuesday night (Aug. 23, 2011).

“We’re getting significant interest in participation,” Landis said of his Aug. 15 call for volunteer representatives from each elementary building – Lower Pottsgrove, Ringing Rocks, and West Pottsgrove. The district wants their input to determine how and where it provides education to students in kindergarten through fifth grades in future years.

His comment brought smiles to the faces of most board members, who anticipated redistricting would be a hot topic of discussion.

Applications for the committee are still being accepted. Parents are asked to call Landis’ secretary, Barbara Paolucci, at 610-327-2277 Ext. 1011, by no later than Sept. 9 (Friday).

Committee members are expected to meet “throughout the fall and bring recommendations to the school board by early next year” on how the schools might be re-configured to make better use of building space and avoid potential overcrowding, Landis wrote in a letter distributed to all affected parents.

Their recommendations for changes, if any, would not be implemented until the 2012-2013 school term. The committee also will include school board members, district office administration, principals and teacher representatives.
