POTTSTOWN PA – For yet another year, students at the Pottsgrove School District‘s Ringing Rocks Elementary School are being asked to contribute money to charity rather than spend it on holiday gifts to exchange between themselves or their teachers.
All donations, which are voluntary, will be given to The Salvation Army of Pottstown to provide assistance to families and individuals in need.
Principal Michelle Bozzini announced the effort to parents and others in the school community Friday (Dec. 2, 2011) with the e-mail distribution of her December newsletter, “The Ringing Rocks Elementary Echo.”
“For some people there may be no Christmas tree or stockings by a fireplace or even holiday gifts to open. As a result of our concern for others during the holiday season, we are prepared to help, ” she wrote. “Please put whatever amount of money you wish to
contribute to our holiday project in an envelope marked Salvation Army. No amount is too small,” Bozzini added.
Donations are being collected at the school’s temporary home on North Keim Street through Dec. 19 (Monday). The school during 2010 contributed about $1,000 to the local charity. This year’s donations will be presented Dec. 23 to Salvation Army officials during the Ringing Rocks’ annual sing-a-long.
“I especially want to extend a thank you to all of you for your generosity!,” Bozzini added.
