Sanatoga’s Sunday Summer Concerts Kick Off June 24

SANATOGA PA – The joint – in this case, the band shell at Sanatoga Park on South Sanatoga Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township – gets jumpin’ again in only three weeks.

The first musical event of the township’s 2012 Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Exelon Nuclear, is scheduled to begin June 24 (2012; Sunday) at 7 p.m. at the park, and will feature a perennial kick-off favorite, the local Bill Koss Combo.

The rest of the concert schedule is still being fleshed out, and is likely to include some new performers, Parks and Recreation Board Secretary Jennifer Corley reported. That’s because funding for the series was in question until Exelon stepped forward to again offer financial assistance, and some desired groups had already made commitments elsewhere.

“Most bands waited for us, but a few could not (understandably),” Corley wrote in an e-mail. She expects the concert line-up will be finalized and ready for announcement later this week.

Also returning to Sanatoga Park, and specifically Sanatoga Lake, is the township’s annual fishing rodeo, Assistant Manager Alyson Elliott told the Board of Commissioners during its meeting Monday (June 4).

The rodeo is scheduled for June 16 (Saturday) at 7:30 a.m., and again will be conducted by representatives of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Parents can register their children for the event at the municipal building, 2199 Buchert Rd., Sanatoga, or by calling the office at 610-323-0436.

Township maintenance crews have spent time cleaning areas surrounding the lake in anticipation of the crowd the rodeo often draws, board Vice President Bruce Foltz said.
