POTTSTOWN PA – Redistricting plans for elementary schools in the Pottsgrove School District will affect not only some students during the next academic year but, in the case of the Pottsgrove Recreation Board, kids who are on vacation before schools re-open as well.
The board, at its website, explains that redistricting is forcing it to change playground locations. Its programs this year will be held from June 25 to July 27 at Ringing Rocks Elementary School, on Kauffman Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township; and at the West Pottsgrove Township municipal building on Grosstown Road in Stowe.
The good news is that the board has a summer program planned for its new sites that includes opportunities to play sports, have arts and crafts time, and attend prearranged trips. Drink breaks are provided, and drinks will be available for purchase, but no “snack time” will be scheduled. The program is open to all Pottsgrove children who have completed kindergarten through 8th grade, with on-site activities Mondays through Thursdays, and trips planned for Fridays.
Among trips being scheduled are those for miniature golf, bowling, swimming, roller skating, and watching a Reading Phillies game. Permission slips and payment for trips will be due the day before each trip.
Registration is under way now, with forms available from the board website, here. All registrations must be submitted by no later than next Friday (June 15, 2012). Registrations will not be held, the board cautions, once the playground program opens.
Participation fees that cover the cost of program activities will be charged at the rate of $50 per child for the first and second children of each family, but with a maximum charge of $125 per family no matter the number of children it registers.
For more information, call Director of Recreation Jody Sweinhart at 484-300-9637.
The board is the central recreational organization of the Pottsgrove townships, and was created to provide recreational activities for their residents. Funding is provided by the three townships and the school district. Board members meet on the second Thursday of each month.
