POTTSTOWN PA – The public might expect to see Kyle Berman‘s smiling face again at the Pottsgrove Board of School Directors’ conference table next year.
Berman is an attorney with the Blue Bell-based law firm of Fox Rothschild LLP, which has a long-standing relationship with the Pottsgrove School District as its solicitor. Directors last Tuesday (June 12, 2012) re-appointed the firm for the position during the 2012-2013 academic year on a retainer agreement. Berman most frequently attends board meetings on its behalf, with an iPad and 3-inch thick book of the state school code always nearby.
You might call him board President Michael Neiffer’s left-hand man. Berman usually sits to Neiffer’s left at the table, with Superintendent Dr. Bradley Landis to Neiffer’s right.
Berman specializes in school, business and criminal law (he formerly was a litigator with the Delaware County Public Defender’s Office). He’s also had been-there, done-that experience with a school board; he previously served as president of the Wallingford-Swarthmore Board of School Directors.
The face Pottsgrove’s public rarely, if ever, sees is that of Fox Rothschild Education Law Group chairman, attorney and firm partner Jeffrey T. Sultanik. His practice is concentrated in personnel and labor relations for municipal and school entities, and while he does not regularly attend board meetings he is a continuing behind-the-scenes presence.
It was Sultanik who served as strategist and negotiator during the most recent, and earlier, contracts between the district and its labor unions, including the just-concluded 3-year agreement with the Pottsgrove Education Association.
Both Berman and Sultanik contribute to Fox Rothschild’s education law blog, here.
