SANATOGA PA – Jonathan Spadt is going to Tampa after all.
Spadt, president of the Lower Pottsgrove Township Board of Commissioners, is one of three delegates who will represent Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District at the Republican National Convention from Aug. 27-30 (2012) in Tampa FL. He’s headed to the Sunshine State despite the fact that he originally placed fourth among nine candidates who ran for election as delegates during the April primary.
The election winners, in official order, were district congressman Jim Gerlach, Pottstown lawyer and Chester County commissioner Ryan A. Costello, and Lower Providence Township resident and paralegal Janice Kearney. Spadt finished 91 votes behind Kearney.
Politics, however, are flexible and sometimes fragile things. Gerlach, Costello and Spadt all are professed Mitt Romney supporters; Kearney, according to the Issuu.com website, was not. With Romney the convention’s likely presidential nominee, Republican committees in Montgomery, Berks and Chester counties reportedly agreed to collectively endorse Spadt as the district’s third delegate.
The trio will join 69 other delegates from Pennsylvania, and a total of 2,286 delegates from across the country, for their party’s nominations for president and vice-president of the United States, and adoption of the official party platform. “It is my genuine privilege to play even a small role in this process,” Spadt said.
