SANATOGA PA – An alert resident at Shaner’s Trailer Park, 3000 E. High St., called Lower Pottsgrove police early Sunday morning (Aug. 19, 2012) as two males and a juvenile female allegedly tried to steal items – including a pick-up truck tailgate – from vehicles near residences in the park, department Chief Michael Foltz said.
Colby James Martin, 21, of Royersford PA, and Thomas Jae Anderson, 20, of Limerick PA, were arrested at about 1:41 a.m. after the chief and accompanying Ofc. Ryan Smith arrived on the scene and found the suspects had already been confronted, seated on the ground, and detained by the caller, who was watching over them. Also taken into custody was the female, not identified by name, who later was released to a responsible adult, pending further investigation.
Foltz said his department was notified Sunday the caller had “interrupted” the three as they allegedly took items from two pick-up trucks parked nearby.
The caller was awakened by the sound of the suspects’ own truck and noise from their actions outside his and neighboring trailers, according to the police report. He said he saw the suspects “looking around the two parked pick-up trucks,” removing a tailgate from one of them, and then attempting to leave with the items.
“The caller then exited his trailer and confronted the suspects,” Foltz said. The caller also was not identified, and there was no indication in the report if he was armed.
The dislodged tailgate was found at the scene.
Martin and Anderson were charged with theft of auto parts, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, loitering and prowling at nighttime, and criminal conspiracy. Both “confessed to their intention to steal the tailgate off the truck,” Foltz reported. They were jailed in the Pottstown Police Department until they could be arraigned later Sunday.
