SANATOGA PA – A 29-year-old Philadelphia man was arrested Sunday morning (Aug. 26, 2012) at about 4:39 a.m. by Lower Pottsgrove Township police and charged with domestic assault, after he allegedly assaulted a woman at the Rolling Hills apartment complex, 2120 Buchert Rd., “by striking and choking her.”
Vern Nigel Goodwin was located and arrested in nearby Gerald Richards Park about 30 minutes after police were dispatched to Rolling Hills, according to Ofc. Matthew Meitzler. He was arraigned later during the day, and committed to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Eagleville in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
Meitzler reported police arrived at the complex in response to a report of “an armed subject trying to gain entry into an apartment.” They spoke with an unidentified female victim, and determined Goodwin was earlier involved in a verbal argument, during which they allege he assaulted her, fled the residence, returned and attempted to force entry into the apartment, then fled again.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday (Aug. 30).
