SANATOGA PA – A Limerick PA man, to whom a Lower Pottsgrove Township police officer was ready to give a helping hand last week, was instead arrested when the patrolman allegedly found an illegal item in his possession.
Justin William Cannon, 20, of Fruitville Road, Limerick, was charged Aug. 19 (2012; Sunday) at about 3 a.m. with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness after Off. Matthew Musselman stopped him on East High Street near Allison Drive.
Musselman reported Cannon had “glassy and bloodshot eyes;” allegedly smelled of an alcoholic beverage; and “showed a positive reading for alcohol” when given a portable breath test. Although he was several miles from Cannon’s home, Musselman was prepared to offer the man a ride there.
For the officer’s personal safety, however, Cannon could not be allowed into the patrol car until he was patted down, Musselman explained. It was “during the pat-down (that) a glass pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana was found” in a pocket of the shorts Cannon was wearing, according to the police report.
So Cannon’s first ride was to the Pottstown police station for processing on the arrest, Musselman said. And, once that was finished, Cannon was returned to his home.
