POTTSTOWN PA – Students have the day off Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2012) at all buildings in the Pottsgrove and Pottstown school districts, because officials in both decided to make that call at mid-day Monday (Oct. 29) rather than wait for further developments from Hurricane Sandy.
In addition, the Pottstown branch of the Freedom Valley YMCA – which provides child day care and after-school care services to some elementary and middle school pupils in both districts, also is closed.
Pottsgrove’s one-sentence announcement said the decision of Acting Superintendent Shellie Feola was a result of the “ongoing effects of Hurricane Sandy.” It did not mention a date for school’s resumption. Pottstown Acting Superintendent Jeff Sparagana acted similarly, and added that “all co-curricular and athletic events have been canceled, including practices.”
“We will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions and coordinate with local authorities regarding a decision for Wednesday,” Sparagana wrote in an e-mail. “The district will communicate further information by postings on (its) website, use of phone messaging, e-alert systems and local media.”
The Y, at Adams and Jackson streets, expects to resume its normal business hours Wednesday (Oct. 30).
